Hollins University is a private, liberal art, women’s college, located in Roanoke, Virginia,  where I was fortunate enough to earn my Bachelors in Studio Art and my Masters in the Arts of Teaching.

Professional knowledge refers to the teacher’s knowledge and understanding of the curriculum, subject area, as well as the developmental needs of the students. Having a good understanding of how students learn and develop is crucial to providing students with the most effective learning environment, taking into account the differing needs of each student when planning lessons or activities for the classroom. Teachers who have mastered this standard have the ability to create meaningful lessons to help ensure the students understanding and mastery of the content. Lastly, the teacher establishes goals for the classroom to meet the standards that were developed by the state to guarantee that the student has obtained the appropriate knowledge of the subject.

During my time at Hollins University,  I studied with the Batten Leadership Institute and obtained my leadership certificate.
