Professional Practice Standards
Standard Six
Professionalism refers to the teacher’s ability to maintain his/her commitment to professional ethics; professional ethics include, communicating effectively and taking responsibility for and participating in continued professional growth in order to enhance student learning. Collaboration is key to being professional, teachers are constantly collaborating to ensure student success. Not only do teachers collaborate with administrators, colleagues, and community members to promote and support the students, they are also working with the parents and families of the students to promote learning at home awe well as at school. In every action that a teacher performs in the school and the classroom, they are modeling their personal integrity, professionalism, and their ethics. Respecting the privacy of all whom they interact with is a crucial aspect of maintaining professionalism, especially as a teacher where you are asked to continuously reflect on, evaluate, and improve upon your practices. Nowadays, it is almost as important for teachers to constantly be in the process of professional development as it is for teachers to use standard oral and written English in all communications.
As a part of my professionalism practices, I will be conducting a daily reflection of myself and my classroom using “10 Self-Reflective Questions for Every Teacher.” These questions will help me to better understand my needs, the needs of the students, and the needs of the classroom as a whole.
